💛: If Genta were to choose the best performance of 2020, or the best stage, which would it be?
💙: I wouldn’t hesitate, my only choice would be Shizuya’s Summer Paradise!
💛: Wah ~ for real?
💙: I’ve never watched another stage where my heart was that moved. Shizuya standing in the center of that world... it was the best.
💛: Genta saying that about me, I’m happy. Thank you.
💙: I don’t know if I can say this, but before the concert started, several things happened and Shizuya became kind of sad.
💛: Yup, I actually cried backstage before the concert started (laughs). I was able to show my everything during the concert, so I don’t mind anymore, but before the concert I got some feedback from the staff and I became confused. I was told that what I had thought and believed in was the complete opposite.
💙: Not just you, but all of us had believed in the same thing.
💛: That’s right. Let’s put what was said behind. But it was right before the concert so I got flustered and it turned into tears...
💙: Namida ~ Namida ~ (sings Namida no Kesshou)
💛: Thank you for singing (laughs). At that point, I had no choice but to believe in myself. No matter what others say, I am here now. This is who I am! I did my best with those feelings and ended up crying after the show. Everyone else was crying too (laughs).
💙: Yup, it really was an amazing stage! I could feel Shizuya’s soul in each song, and it wasn’t just me! The adults near me were all crying too. Even the choreographer who’s famous for being scary! I still feel touched when I think back about it. Your dancing and singing were full of energy! Through that stage Shizuya shed off not one, not two, but three layers of skin!
💛: My skin will become too thin (laughs).
💙: Shizuya is kind, so even when he’s decided on something, when someone else doubts it, he accepts it. But I got to know that Shizuya is someone who holds his own beliefs, and will tell the other person “I won’t change it, I’ll go with this.” Shizuya usually takes a step back and prioritises others’ opinions, but I was happy to see the moment when Shizuya stepped forward.
💛: I was putting on a strong front, but my heart was shattering inside (laughs). But my members and the choreographer told me “It’s ok, Shizuya is Shizuya” and I was able to stand up again because of that.
💙: Thankfully it became good tears in the end. I still watch Shizuya’s Summer Paradise now.
💛: Thank you! In fact, my number 1 stage for 2020 is Genta’s Summer Paradise.

💛: After going through Summer Paradise, we did our online live “ENTER1234567” and I felt that Genta grew the most.
💙: Oh~
💛: For Summer Paradise, you placed more importance on singing right? I watched the first show of all the members, and Genta’s singing voice was enchanting from the very start, and it made me feel like I became a young girl again (laughs). The quality was that high. Of course, I was surprised by the dancing too “You could dance this well?” Honestly, while Genta is more versatile than me, I think my skill levels are higher. But when I saw the contemporary dance for “Ai no Katamari” I went “Unbelievable!!”
💙: Gyahahaha! Ah, I’m happy to be praised by Shizuya. But I’d like to have Shizuya’s core strength.
💛: I’ll give you half my core strength, could you give me half your singing voice? (laughs)
💙: We’re share half each?
💛: Yay! (laughs) We were able to find out what we were good at, and what we needed to improve on through the solo concerts. I think Travis Japan is a group with a great sense of balance, thus when something is lacking, someone will make up for it naturally. That’s why some points we had to work on went undiscovered. These surfaced during the solo concerts and we each learnt about what we had to do.
💙: That’s right, it really was a good experience!
There’s a world we’ve never seen before, beyond the seven nations!
💛: Our national tour “IMAGE NATION” has been confirmed!! (The interview was done in mid-January)
💙: Yay!
💛: The theme of the tour is “nation”. We each become the king of a nation and come up with the staging for our nations...
💙: And when all 7 nations get together, something will happen?! Oh ~ I’m getting excited just talking about this ~ (laughs). The one who came up with this theme is our leader, Chaka.
💛: We all gave various ideas, but Chaka presented his the last and he got the best part (laughs)
💙: To be more detailed, our eyes met Chaka’s but he wanted to present his idea the last. He had confidence in it (laughs)
💛: The subtitle of “Is it ok if we have a national tour!?” is Noel’s idea. So the tour title is a combination of Chaka’s and Noel’s ideas.
💙: The one who expanded the idea of 7 nations was Matsukura Kaito. He gave names that fit the kings’ characters to each nation.
💛: Look forward to those names during the concert! It’s related to our member colours. For example, Shime is pink so...
💙: King of peaches?
💛: Gyahaha! That’s cute though! (laughs)
💙: To our fans, please look forward to it and try to guess the names while waiting! We were also particular about the video footage, setlist and goods. I hope you’ll accept the message we have from all of these!
💛: It’s our first national tour after all. We went to the staff to ask for a new song!
💙: That’s right, isn’t it a song that’s different from all our other songs?
💛: It might even be different from all other Johnny’s songs...
💙: This time, it’ll be a song that would represent us as well as “Yume no Hollywood” as we aim internationally.
💛: That’s right. Everyone can have fun, dance to it and sing along. It’s simply a good song!

About each other’s dancing
💙: Shizuya’s core is amazing! When I look at his back when he teaches us the choreography, he looks like a utility pole dancing with arms and legs.
💛: Don’t use something that’s slowly disappearing from the streets to describe my body (laughs)
💙: Eh, are utility poles disappearing?
💛: They’re being buried underground so that the scenery will be nicer... enough about utility poles! Talk about me! (laughs)
💙: You core doesn’t waver even if you dance lightly. You look really fashionable and cool. If you don’t train your inner muscles, you won’t be able to look like that. Is it because you play basketball?
💛: I wonder. Genta’s an all-rounder who can do anything. For example, when Yara-kun taught us a difficult dance step, I had to work really hard and managed to do it just before the actual show. Genta could do it from the start! I always think “Ah, as expected of Johnny’s”
💙: Shizuya is a Johnny’s too.
💛: Ah, I am (laughs). When there is new choreography, it seems like you don’t think too hard and just dance with your heart. I’m the opposite from Genta so I can’t move if I don’t think about it. “I have to move my feet here, and my body this way after...” I have to break things down. Genta skips all that and just moves based on his senses, I think it’s amazing. You don’t make mistakes and don’t get scolded by the choreographers too.
💙: I do feel anxious sometimes though. I’m unsure if I’m doing it right.
💛: You often get praised. I often hear “That’s good, Genta!” during our dance lessons.
💙: When I’m really tired and slack off when dancing, I get told “That’s the worst” though.
💛: In a good and bad way, you’re always honest. When you’re having fun you show it, but you show it when you’re tired too. Your dancing shows the voice in your heart.
💙: For me, because Shizuya thinks while dancing, you analyse every part of the song and challenge it with 100% understanding. You’re cool like a historical war general!
💛: Why are we suddenly talking about history (laughs). At least tell me the name of the general!
💙: Someone cool like Date Masamune!
💛: Ok, but what kind of person was he?
💙: He rode a horse in a town famous for gyutan (beef tongue) right?
💛: All of them ride horses!
💙: However, the part of you being easily influenced by others’ opinions is not general-like. Even for dances that Shizuya choreographed, when I change the dance while doing it, you say “Let’s do it this way!” immediately. You’re too nice! You should stand your own ground! Even though I’m the one changing it (laughs).
The memorable first meeting
💛: I first took note of Genta when you started talking about how you look up to Yamada-kun. That was at Teigeki...
💙: Johnny’s World (2012-2013)?
💛: Yes! Genta had just joined and was tiny. You were being spoilt by Yamada-kun and Snow Man. I watched you talk to my beloved Yamada-kun from afar and thought “This brat in a soccer uniform is talking to my Yamada-kun! I’ve never even spoken to him...” and was jealous (laughs)
💙: Gyahahaha! That’s funny (laughs). I didn’t know that you were jealous of me at all.
💛: We didn’t have any interactions and had difference dance parts too.
💙: Before I knew it, I was calling you “Shizuya~” I wonder why?
💛: Yes! We had just gotten to know each other and you quickly switched to friendly language (laughs)
💙: That must be because Shizuya gave off the aura of being kind to your juniors.
💛: How did we get to know each other?
💙: I have the memory of speaking to you in the dressing room. Weren’t you wearing a black parka?
💛: I was! (laughs)
💙: We had different dressing rooms, but were on the same floor. We took an offshot for the Johnny’s shop...
💛: That’s right, we did! It was in front of the elevator! We had never spoken to each other but a staff walking by called out to us and told us to take a photo together, arms around each other. I smiled while thinking “This is Yamada-kun’s...” (laughs)
💙: I think my parents still have that photo. Didn’t we get closer when we went to Johnny-san’s house? We were all kids and Shizuya was like an older brother so you looked after us.
💛: Ah, it might be that.
💙: I went to watch “PLAYZONE” after that too.
💛: You came to watch us at Theatre Crea too. We kept that nice sort of distance (laughs). Before I knew it, Genta had grown up and became good at dancing and was in “Endless SHOCK”. I was worried about there being another Yamada-kun fan in the group when you joined Travis Japan though.
💙: Don’t worry about that (laughs). But when we had a meal with Yamada-kun you sat at a seat in the far corner!
💛: I’m the type that’s just satisfied by looking from afar.
💙: In various ways, you haven’t changed from when we just met. Just your hairstyle changed. You had bangs and your hair was curly right?
💛: Hey, it was fashionable back then! (laughs)
About Matsuda Genta
A “thank you” you want to convey: Genta is a precious member who praises me in a straightforward manner. “Your solo live was good!” “Your choreography this time was cool!” he puts these into words and says them to me. When you’re with someone for a long time, in a good and bad way, you’ll start to take things for granted and feel like you don’t have to say things anymore. But Genta doesn’t change and continues to praise me in the same way. Also, when I bring up a dance video I saw that was interesting, he immediately reacts and comes forward. Genta’s a really good guy ~ (laughs)
A small complaint: I’m often made to massage him. He takes my hands and puts them on his shoulders as a sign for me to massage him (laughs). Well, if Genta asks, I’ll do it for him as much as he wants but sometimes I want more than a “thank you”... Ah just a small thing is fine. Such as, if Genta brings up this episode during. magazine interview? I’ll be happy with just that (laughs)

A “thank you” you want to convey: Thank you for being born. Thank you for us getting to know each other. Thank you for choreographing. Thank you for always smiling. Thank you for having a nice body. Thank you for every day! The latest “thank you” would be just earlier when I forgot to wear a coat and had to take solo shots outside, the staff told me to wear a jacket because it was cold but I didn’t have one... and Shizuya lent me his! Thank you so much! I’m really grateful!
A small complaint: He’s so nice that he might be a psychopath...? He really is too nice so I’m becoming suspicious. Also when we got to back dance for Arashi-san (This is Arashi LIVE), Shizuya just kept drinking black coffee! I started to think that he would release black coffee when he goes to the toilet and was worried. Also, I have a complaint about performances, Shizuya somehow makes the most mistakes. He choreographs so he remembers everyone’s parts and ends up making mistakes. Don’t block me when it’s my part ~ (laughs)
