Matsuda Genta – I want to refresh my happiness with you every second

1. Congratulations on ranking 10th for “Jr. you would want as a lover”! If Genta-kun were the boyfriend of a member of Travis Japan, how would you give your all to them?

Let’s go with me being Matsukura’s boyfriend. Firstly, we’d let off a happy aura all the time. Also, I’d use the weird parts of me to appeal to him. Kaito is really a good guy, so I’d recommend him to live life easily (laughs).

2. Genta-kun ranked 1st for “Sexiest Jr.” What are some mannerisms by females you find sexy?

A person who doesn’t move their face or body, but just their eyes to check when the train announcement goes “Next is OO-station.” An energy-saving girl. Her seeming tired is sexy… do you get it?

3. Who does Genta-kun think is the sexiest Johnny’s?

Koichi-kun. The sex appeal when he just stands on stage is amazing.

4. Does Genta-kun have any similarities with seniors you find cool?

Being accepting maybe. During the stay home period, I often chatted with Yaotome-kun remotely, and he could accept everything. I thought he was really cool as a guy.

5. Someone you think of as a rival, other than your members?

Fujiwara Joichiro. I want to surpass his brain, the funny things he says. I want to say intentionally funny things!

6. If you could form an original unit with other Jrs, who would they be?

Jo-kun and Hashimocchan. It would be nice as blue rangers.

7. Who would you be if you could be someone else in Johnny’s for just 1 day?

Kubo Ren. His innocence and desperation… he’s like a little Kishi-kun. I want to have those feelings once again!

8. Do you have any interactions with Sakuma Ryuto-kun lately?

No, we spoke a little during Jr. Matsuri but he doesn’t really respond to me… To make him jealous I’ll become an Inoue Mizuki-tan!

9. What do you want fans to call you?

Gen.

Hmm, Pumpkin (Kabocha). To-ra-ja! Ka-bo-cha!

11. What are songs you feel good dancing to? I would like to know 1 original song and 1 cover please!

Firstly, our new song “Get Alive”. It’s rock and has momentum, I can dance to it while showing my individuality.

Second would be Sexy Zone’s “Sukisugite”. It was my audition song, so I have strong memories about this song. It’s a song that makes me really happy.

12. During lives, what should I do to get you to notice me?

Have fun! I want you to shout as loudly as the vuvuzelas when a goal is scored during the World Cup.

13. What clothes look cute from on stage?

I like vintage clothes, so I would be happy if you wore clothes in that style.

14. Please tell us about the charm of vintage clothes!

Why don’t you know the charms of vintage clothes!! There are colours and patterns you’ve never seen, and the feeling of wearing the only piece in the world… your view of the world will change!

15. What are the deciding factors when you buy clothes?

Firstly, I would consider if it matches clothes I already own. If I’m hesitating, I would just go for it. You only live once. It’s a waste of time to hesitate!

16. Why have you been growing out your hair lately?

I couldn’t go to the salon during the stay home period.

17. What hair colours do you like for females?

Hair that looks black, but is brown when the sun shines on it. Something like Michieda-kun’s hair, not (Ohashi) Kazuya’s!

18. You often say you like older women, specifically what kind of person do you like?

Someone who would spoil me. Like older women you often see in dramas.

19. It can’t be someone younger than you?

Someone younger is fine too. If she was younger, I think I would work hard and try to be more responsible.

20. What would you do if the girl you liked had someone else they liked?

I’d keep telling her “I like you.”

21. Where in school would you confess?

From the principal’s office! I would use the announcement system to get her to come to the office and get the principal to leave the office for a bit (laughs). I would confess in an atmosphere where there is just the two of us. That would be memorable, right?

22. Do you want to get married?

I want to get married in my 20s. It would be nice to have someone who’s fun to be with.

23. Is it ok if I cheat on you with other members?

It’s ok! You only live once!

24. What do you want to do with your kids when you’re a father?

Soccer! Outdoors! I would like to share the knowledge of being a man… ah what if it’s a girl? I would introduce her to shampoo and conditioner that smells really nice.

25. What’s the most memorable thing that happened when you were 20?

Having dinner at a restaurant on top of a hotel with my father, mother and sister. At night, my sister and mother went home first while I was with my father, talking as we looked at the night view. At that time, I thought, “This is happiness! I want to do the same thing with my kids in the future.”

26. Are you still close to your sister?

Of course! She calls me to tell me how she scores on her tests. My sister’s results for English are top class! She’s also really athletic.

27. I want to watch soccer with Genta-kun! What plan would you make for the day?

If it’s a match with the Japanese players, it would start at about 7 in the evening. Till then we should save our energy. So instead, we won’t go anywhere but watch past matches at home. “This player tends to move like this. How will he be this time?” – we would have such serious discussions. We would both wear uniforms and stick temporary tattoos on our faces, almost like we were in the match ourselves!

28. What’s the ideal height difference between you and your girlfriend?

I would like to think about this “seriously”. (Genta uses the phrase “shinchou ni” for seriously, which is a pun for height “shinchou”)

29. I’m the same height as Shime-chan (166.5cm), are tall girls ok?

They’re definitely ok!

30. What would you like your girlfriend to cook for you?

Miso soup with clams!

31. Where would you like to spend Christmas with your girlfriend?

When Santa-san is done with work and heading back home, we would welcome him home with party poppers. We’d massage his shoulders, serve him miso soup with clams and thank him for his hard work.

32. What is an action by your girlfriend that would make your heart flutter?

When I say “Good Morning” and she replies with “Good Morning! ♪“, I would be happy! ♪

33. How did you learn Korean?

I learnt it as a foreign language at university. We watched MVs in class and it was really fun! If there’s a chance, I would like to study it again. I want to watch Korean dramas without subtitles.

34. Who comes first when you say “MatsuMatsu”?

Please, let me say this. Matsuda comes first… Just kidding. It’s not decided.

35. When do you feel thankful to have Matsukura-kun as your Shinme?

The moment I finished watching his solo concert for Summer Paradise 2020. I was touched, and really respected him… there were many feelings inside of me. When I saw Kaito, I couldn’t say anything, I thought, “There’s such a cool guy I can really respect so close to me.”

36. Genta-kun has always looked like the older one from “MatsuMatsu” days. What was the oldest you’ve been told you look?

When I was 15, I was asked if I was 20.

37. What kind of person do you want to be in 5 years, or 10 years time?

I want to be someone who is always on TV. In 10 years, I’d like to act as a general in a Taiga drama. I’d like to be someone who suits a beard, puts on a helmet (kabuto) and rides on a horse.

38. What is something you take note of when talking to someone for the first time?

I’d say my greetings properly. Good morning, Thank you… greetings that would appear on the first page of a textbook.

39. Did Genta-kun learn calligraphy? Your handwriting is nice and I’m jealous.

I didn’t learn it, but I practiced it a little at a friend of my grandmother’s place. It was only about a week. But I often get praised for my handwriting.

40. What is your lock screen and home screen?

My lock screen is a picture of a yellow car. It’s not really my interest, but I just have it there. My home screen is a picture I took with Koichi-kun.

41. Do you prefer bread or rice for breakfast?

Rice. I like the standard meal with natto and miso soup. My grandparents would bring us breakfast in the morning.

42. At which moment did you feel that it’s good you joined Johnny’s?

My family smiles more. I’m especially glad when my grandparents smile.

43. How did you feel when you joined Travis Japan?

I had strong feelings of wanting to pull everyone forward, even though I didn’t say it. I also thought about the feelings of the fans. The group was already formed and I felt that I had to work hard to make sure they accepted me even if they didn’t want to. Back then Noel was scary, like a king (laughs). Now everyone has their own roles, so I don’t feel the need to stand out strangely. I lost those aggressive feelings I had at first, in a good way.

44. What about your fans are you proud of?

They’re… really similar to me!

45. What’s something that makes you feel glad to be in Travis Japan?

It’s like I gained a new surname, one that will stick with me for life. If anything happens, I now have a home and family to return to.

46. Is there something you can’t forgive?

I can’t forgive someone who hurts my members or family… people around me. I think I would ask them “Why would you do such a thing?”

47. Who are you most thankful for during the stay home period?

My family and members. When we met after the stay home period, I was so nervous I didn’t know what to say. But in my heart I felt, “Wah! Yay!” It was a revolution in my life to have met such members. I’m really thankful to Johnny-san.

48. This is something I can’t give up on – what’s something you are particular about in life?

Enjoy every second!

49. What does “kindness” mean to you?

I can’t be kind to people who aren’t kind to me. I have to be more big-hearted. Like a dam! A dam-heart!

50. What is “youth” to you?

From when I was born till now, it’s always “youth”. It’ll be my “youth” from now on too. Everything is memorable, and I want to live happily. “Forever youth” – this is a nice phrase. I’ll use it more from now on!
